Privacy policy

Your privacy matters on Acadelyn.

We want Acadelyn to feel useful, safe, and trustworthy. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, what other people can see, and the choices you have.

What Acadelyn collects

When you create an account or use Acadelyn, we may collect:

  • basic account information such as your name, email address, role, and login details
  • profile information you add, such as your university, department, interests, keywords, bio, or photo
  • activity inside the platform, such as saved professors, tracked conferences, reminders, and profile preferences
  • messages and connection activity when you use peer or faculty communication features
  • technical information such as device, browser, IP address, and session data to help keep the site secure and working properly

Why we use this information

We use information mainly to run the platform well and help users get value from it. That includes:

  • creating and managing your account
  • showing useful faculty, peer, and conference matches
  • saving your preferences and tracked items
  • sending reminders, updates, or account-related emails you choose to receive
  • protecting the platform, preventing misuse, and fixing problems
  • improving search, recommendations, and the general user experience

What other users can see

Some parts of your profile are meant to help discovery and connection. That means information such as your name, university, department, interests, and profile summary may be visible to other users when relevant.

Your private settings, tracked conferences, reminder choices, and account details are not shown publicly. Private messages are only visible to the people involved in that conversation.

Cookies and similar tools

Acadelyn uses cookies and similar storage tools to keep the site working properly. These help with things like keeping you signed in, protecting your session, remembering simple preferences, and keeping the platform stable.

If we use optional cookies later for things like analytics or performance measurement, you will be able to choose whether to allow them. You can also manage cookies in your browser settings.

Email reminders and notifications

If you track conferences or turn on reminders, Acadelyn may send emails such as deadline reminders, weekly digests, or important account notices. You can update those preferences from your account settings.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information only when it is needed to run the platform, such as with trusted services that help with hosting, email delivery, security, or maintenance.

We may also share information if required by law or if it is necessary to protect the platform, users, or the integrity of the service.

How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as it is reasonably needed to operate Acadelyn, support your account, keep records, and maintain security. If you ask us to remove your account, we may keep limited information where necessary for legal, security, or technical reasons.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect account and platform data, but no online system can promise perfect security. Using a strong password and protecting your login details also helps keep your account safe.

Your choices

  • you can update profile details inside your account
  • you can change reminder and email preferences
  • you can manage cookies in your browser and through our cookie notice
  • you can contact us if you want to correct or remove information
